The Official Version
Melanie K. Cossey of Decatur, AL and Dr. John P. Peters, also of
Decatur, were married at 11:30 AM April 20 at the home of the groom by
Dr. Ron Madison.
Parents of the couple are Emma Kraehenbuhl of Decatur and the late Pat
Kraehenbuhl, and Della Peters of Cartersville, GA and the late Herbert
P. Peters.
The bride wore an off-white, knee length suit and a blue linen blouse
with a V neckline. The groom wore a coordinated outfit consisting of a
designer blazer, slacks, and tie. The bride's sisters, Melissa
O'Sullivan and Sophie Hunter, both of Decatur, served as attendants to
the bride. Paul Peters and Clint Peters, sons of the groom, served as
best men for their father.
Following a wedding trip to the Smoky Mountains and Washington, DC, the couple will live in Decatur, AL.
What Really Happened
Melanie Cossey and John Peters decided to get married. Reverend Ron
Madison agreed to perform a cheap ceremony at John's house in return
for a free round of golf at the country club. Ron probably wore shorts
under his minister's gown, but nobody actually looked to be sure.
Melanie's two sisters and a cousin showed up to see what was going
tohappen. Melanie's daughter also showed up, just as the very short
ceremony ended. John's sons , one grandson, one daughter-in-law, and
both of his friends also came for the nuptials. A short reception
followed the ceremony, but ended quickly when the small cake was all
gone.
Melanie wore an off-white suit, a blue blouse with a V neckline that
showed enough cleavage to keep John's attention, and some shoes she
borrowed from her sister's closet. John found a pretty clean pair
ofslacks, a clip-on tie, and an old overcoat which made him look better
than usual for the wedding.
The attendants, best men, and guests all sat or stood around relatively
quietly, mostly ignoring the bride and groom, as the ceremony evolved
on the front porch overlooking the golf course with its resident
hackers and migrant workers. Since the minister's tee time was rapidly
approaching, the ceremony was very short, but sweet and hopefully
legal. No one was given the opportunity to object, so the service moved
right along to its conclusion.
The newly married couple spent their wedding night at a Rosanne Cash
concert in Decatur, then went to Pigeon Forge for a few days, where the
traffic was so bad they spent most of their short honeymoon trapped in
gridlock. After a far too long, 5-mile hike in the mountainous woods of
Cade's Cove left the honeymooners exhausted and unable to walk normally
for several days, the happy couple did a little shopping and then drove
to Washington, DC to visit Melanie's sister for 24 hours. After loading
the sister's 15 case wine collection in their truck to move it to
Decatur, the wandering couple headed home. A brief stop was made in
Virginia to meet one of John's customers (so the trip could be written
off on taxes), then the still happy couple returned to Decatur where
they will live happily ever after on the golf course in John's house.
And that's "the rest of the story".
