Dear Fellow Owner/Member of Decatur Country Club:

In our 86 year history, Decatur Country Club has survived a number of challenging times, including the
Great Depression, World War II, and a number of economic downturns and recessions. The current
recession is the worst we have seen in many years. Your board and the new Long Range Planning
Committee believe our club, with its long and rich history, is one of Decatur's longest and grandest
traditions and plays an important role in the social lives of our members. Our club is worthy of our time
and financial support to ensure it continues as a private club for future generations.
Unlike public and "semi-private " clubs, Decatur Country Club is owned and governed by you, the
members. Your membership provides you with both equity and a voice in club affairs. Membership is
by invitation only from current members, allowing us to share the use of our club with other like-minded
individuals with similar goals, interests, and backgrounds. Decatur Country Club is a Decatur tradition
and landmark worth preserving and expanding, and it is our goal to defend the future of Decatur
Country Club as a private organization for our members.

Membership in Decatur Country Club has its privileges. With these privileges comes responsibility. No
one member is more important than the success of the club as an organization. We are asking each of
our member/owners to continue their outstanding support of our club in these difficult times. At times
we must ask our members to make some sacrifices for the success of our club, and all members need to
"buy in" to these needs of our club. Being a member of Decatur Country Club offers your family a
unique experience and says something about your personal success and expectations. It is the goal of
our Board of Directors and Long Range Planning Committee to continually reinvent and develop
processes to improve the services and financial stability of your club, both now and in the future.
As mentioned in previous correspondence, the current economic downturn has resulted in the loss of
over 100 DCC members in the past 12 months. While the economy is finally showing some preliminary
signs of turning around, only a few of these lost members have rejoined our club to date, although
others are just waiting until their situations improve again. Our membership drive has generated about
10-12 new members, and we expect more new and returning members to join or rejoin as the economy
and the weather improve this spring.

Over the past 6 months our club management has done an excellent job of getting our expenses under
tight control. We have found large savings in a number of club operations, and these savings are now
reflected in our financial performance. Unfortunately, the savings we have realized have not been
enough to offset the decrease in dues revenue from the loss of members. A chart is attached to this
letter showing our relative dues and expenses for the past 4 years. As you can see, our expenses have
risen over the past several years, and our revenue from dues has not kept pace.
The services that are offered by your club are equal to the revenues available to provide them. We have
reached a crossroads where we must reduce club services or increase dues to continue to provide our
current level of services. We do not want to devalue the services of our club. As your duly elected
representatives, the Board and Long Range Planning Committee are seeking your input to create
solutions for our club to succeed and provide more and better services to our members in the future. In
the next 60-90 days the Long Range Planning Committee will be holding small group meetings to present
and discuss ideas to improve our club and its financial standing and to hear your ideas to help us reach
that goal.

To deal with our immediate problems, the Long Range Planning Committee has proposed, and the Board
has approved, a temporary dues increase of $40.00 per month for regular members and $20.00 per
month for all other members to increase our club revenues immediately. This dues increase will be
effective May 1, 2009 and will include all members who were club members as of January 1, 2009.
Members who have joined or rejoined since our Ambassador Membership Program or amnesty program
began will be subject to any dues increases at the end of their one-year preview membership. We wish
to stress that this is a temporary increase that will be removed when our membership rises to
acceptable levels again. We ask for your continued support and understanding regarding this
temporary increase.

The Board and Long Range Planning Committee feel it is critical that Decatur Country Club remain a
private country club when the current financial crisis is over. It is estimated that only 25% of all U.S.
clubs will be private by 2011. It must be a privilege to belong to our club. Our club must offer
excellence; moderately successful clubs will simply cease to exist. There will always be a market for
quality in Decatur, AL, and Decatur Country Club will be positioned to meet that need. We must all buy
in to this program together to defend the value and the future of our club. As the economy improves
and BRAC brings new faces seeking excellence to the Tennessee Valley, our club will be revitalized to the
importance and status it has held in the past.

We appreciate your support during these difficult times. You can really help your club by bringing in
new members under our ambassador program or by encouraging previous members to rejoin under our
amnesty program (only $500.00 to rejoin). All of you know former members who might come back if
they were asked. Give them a call and help us rebuild our club to its former status. We are counting on
you to do your part to help rebuild our club to insure its immediate and future success

Sincerely,

Joe Hollenbeck
President, Board of Directors.
