Decatur Country Club - Golf
A Tradition Of Excellence Since 1923

Decatur Country Club's well groomed, 6100 yard executive golf course is conveniently located in beautiful southeast Decatur, AL, close to resdidential areas and a very short drive from the residential, commercial and industrial areas of Decatur, Hartselle, and Madison.  You can leave home or work and be ready to tee off in a matter of minutes on our short but very challenging course,  The course is relatively flat and lends itself to easy walking for golfers of all ages.  Rounds are easily completed in 3 1/2 - 4 hours, even on weekends, leaving more time to spend with your family and friends or playing more golf at the club.

The course was rebuilt in 1994 and is defined by fast, bent grass greens with subtle, hard to read breaks. Our narrow bermuda fairways and bermuda rough considerably increase the difficulty of our golf course.  Our golf course is an excellent in-town venue for golf outings and charity events and is fun to play even for golfers of moderate skill levels.

The Club's course is short by today's standards and does not offer a multitude of rewards to the purely long ball hitter, although length is very important on certain holes.  The course does force the golfer to be accurate and to fully develop their short game to be successful.  It is especially appealing to middle aged and senior golfers and to our lady golfers, most of whom walk the course while playing.

With today's new club technology, almost anyone can hit a long ball, but only a few possess the true skills of a shotmaking purist.  It's not how far you can drive the ball, it's the skill behind the club that will challenge golfer's at Decatur Country Club.

Our PGA Certified golf pro, Craig Bocking, maintains a well stocked pro shop and offers a buying program that allows members to buy clubs, balls, clothing, and other golf merchandise at very competitive costs.  This allows members to buy at lower prices than they can receive at any of the large, big box golf stores.  Craig also offers a range ball program costing only $30.00 per year per member for unlimited range ball usage.  This program is a real benefit for serious golfers wanting to improve or fine tune their game.

Craig is an excellent golf teacher and has helped many of our members with their golf swings and playing strategy.  During the spring and summer months he hosts a very popular "walk the range" program where he gives free tips and advice to golfers who are practicing or hitting balls on the range.

Craig also has a very active and effective junior golf program.  He spends a lot of time (and has a lot of fun) teaching our junior golfers all aspects of the game through formal and informal lessons.  Many afternoons find Craig playing with his young students, although sometimes it is hard to discern who is teaching whom.

Our course superintendent, Dennis James, is a USGA certified golf course superintendent and does an excellent jobof keeping our course in top playing condition.
